One of the main financiers and executive producers of ‘Sound of Freedom’ has been arrested, and the charges for which he has been imprisoned have been generating a lot of talk on social media: child trafficking and other kidnapping charges, precisely the subject matter of the movie that he produced. The movie is a beacon of hope for those working to stop the child trafficking networks, so having it’s producer be accused of that same crime is the worst kind of irony.
The man was one of the main financiers of the controversial film, therefore, one of the biggest earners of the revenue made by the movie. Threats to boycott the movie on it’s release in new countries have been rampant on social media, as cinemagoers have no intention to support the movie knowing who will receive a big percentage of their tickets.
The local media Newsweek revealed his name, Fabian Marta, and also confirmed that the businessman was arrested for child kidnapping on July 23rd by the Metropolitan Police in the city of San Luis, Missouri. Mata’s mugshot has not been public.
According to the information provided by the media, the 51-year-old producer was accused on July 21st and detained on July 23rd last month, with further details expected to be released in the coming days.
Marta financed the movie through crowdfunding along with others. Although he did not have a direct involvement in the production of the film, he is credited as “Fabian Marta & Family”, being part of the executive and financial production of the film.
So far, ‘Sound of Freedom’ has proven to be a major success at the American box office, grossing over 120 million dollars in the country, leading to plans for its release in Latin American countries and around the world. The worldwide release is now in jeopardy and uncertainty due to the arrest of Mata.
