Although Barbie is one of the most famous movies nowadays and has been a success in many countries, it might not have the same luck everywhere, because the movie has a strong feminist message that might not be liked by all the countries that would be waiting for the release. Barbie could fail in South Korea due to feminism.
The movie Barbie starring Margot Robbie has caused controversy since it was announced and now upon its release, it has generated a lot of money at the box office and has been a much talked about movie in social networks due to the impact it could have because of the feminist tone of the film, but now, Barbie could fail in South Korea due to feminism.
Last August 2, the entertainment media ‘The Guardian’ said that viewers are afraid of being labeled as feminists, which could explain the almost imminent failure of Barbie in the Asian country. The movie was released on July 19, which as of today has registered only about 460,000 people, instead, movies like ‘Mission: Impossible – Dead Reckoning Part One’ which was released on June 14, has sold more than 3.6 million tickets, or ‘Elementary’ with more than 5.8 million.
Movie experts and critics have assured that taking into account these figures and the dates in which these movies were released, ‘Barbie’ has been the worst release so far this year in South Korea.
