“Barbie” has been the movie of the moment since long before its release was announced, and until today, when about two weeks have already passed since the movie’s release. The film’s hype is due to the fact that it tells the story of the Mattel doll, which has accompanied many young people since their childhood.
For this film, its director, Greta Gerwig, went to great lengths to take every detail into account in order to convey a truly touching story. Recently, the planning of these details came to light and it was affirmed that a small part of this film was inspired by other of the most acclaimed films in cinema.
Since last July 20th, the film has not stopped breaking records and conquering the world of its followers. And while it is all roses and fantasy, one part of the story shows the strangest part of the film.
At one point in the film appears the “Weird Barbie” as the protagonists call her, who although she has a disturbing appearance and very far from the concept of the doll, she is in charge of restoring those Barbie’s who feel lost in her world and also to restore order to Barbieland.
But the curious thing about this fact is that especially the mansion of this version of the doll was inspired by one of the most remembered films of Alfred Hitchcock, the film ‘Psycho‘. The production designer Sarah Greenwood and Katie Spencer, revealed that the film of this famous director was key to design the doll’s house.
“One of my first references was that you go up the stairs and there’s the house from ‘Psycho’, and from there we added other elements. It’s a design that was deliberately planned with everything and form and order“.
What really changes between the look of these two mansions is that one is very colorful while the other is more opaque and melancholy. But beyond that, even though Barbie is perfection made into a movie, like everything else she must have had a source of inspiration and in this case it was the famous movie ‘Psycho’.
