It has been about a year since NewJeans took the world by storm with their debut EP, “Attention.” The group went off to release additional singles “Ditto” and “OMG,” which solidified their sound and aesthetic and gave fans and the public something to look forward to for their next release.
The follow-up to their previous songs came on July 21, when the K-pop girl group released “Get Up,” which is their second EP. The mini-album was well received in South Korea and managed to sell 1.65 million copies in its debut week in the local market. As a result, it debuted at number two in the South Korean chart.
In addition to domestic success, the girl group composed by Hanni, Danielle, Minji, Hyein and Haerin, was able to top the Billboard 200 chart on Wednesday, August 2 local time. The chart ranks the most popular albums of the week in the United States based on album units sold. Moreover, it converts online streaming and download figures into album sales.

The “Super Shy” idols reached the number one spot on the list after an intense sales and streams battle with the Barbie Movie Soundtrack, which includes songs by Nicki Minaj, Billie Eilish and Dua Lipa. Last week, predictions estimated that NewJeans would have their album debuting at number two, but fortunately for the group and their fan base, it managed to climb to the first place with 126.5k units sold. The Barbie soundtrack obtained place number two with 126k units sold.
This definitely marks a milestone both for NewJeans as a group and for K-pop in general. Thanks to this achievement, the group gathered a number of records in the Billboard charts and solidified their international success and popularity with the release of “Get Up.”
