HBO‘s hit series ‘House of the Dragon‘, attempts to centralize what was once the most powerful house in ‘Game of Thrones‘, and of course, with the help of the great fire-breathing beasts it would be very difficult for another faction to overthrow the Targaryens, but in order to properly understand their importance in ‘House of the Dragon’, we must clarify their origins.
In this first season of ‘House of the Dragon’, we are only shown a small part of the family tree of House Targaryen. The history of the humans who managed to ally with the dragons, begins in the times when the continent of Westeros was subdued by Aegon Targaryen the conqueror, then he would be succeeded by 16 more kings of the dragon dynasty, the latter being Daenerys Targaryen in the final episode of the series ‘Game of Thrones’.
House Targaryen reigned over Westeros 283 years, the longest reign that any faction on the continent could rule before, a reign that would finally come to an end in 153 BC, (after the conquest) when Robert Baratheon usurped the crown from Aerys II and Rhaegar Targaryen. It is at this point that the story of Game of Thrones begins.
Where after almost a century, the Targaryen house would return for its legitimate right to the throne, with Daenerys Targaryen, being this the last successor of pure blood, a reign that did not last long, since this would be killed at the hands of Jon Snow, due to the great danger that represented his way of ruling, thus leading to the end of an entire dynasty of Blood and Fire, where finally Bran the Broken was crowned as the next king of Westeros.
