With the controversy over the SAG-AFTRA strikes and protests, the Marvel Studios celebrity, Mark Ruffalo, spoke about the events and made a troubling request. Will he leave Marvel?, many well-known actors have already spoken out in support of the unions who are currently on strike over the unfair conditions the studios have given them in new contracts.
The 55-year-old actor has called upon all those actors who work with big studios to leave, and start again in the independent film industry, in order to break the monopoly of the multi-billion dollar Hollywood empire, explaining that this would give them competition and provide a real challenge for them.
Evidently, the film industry is one of the most lucrative, but not for the workers who manage to get a mini-slice of the huge amounts of money that enrich the big producers and studios, now Mark Ruffalo asked his fellow actors to embrace indie film as a new possibility, with the main objective to mark a competition to Hollywood’s billionaire businessman.
“How about we all jump into indies now? Content creators create a film & TV-making system alongside the studio & streaming networks? So there is actual competition. Then we just do what we always do—create great content & they can buy it, or we take it out ourselves & WE share it. They’ve created an empire of billionaires & believe that we are no longer of value. While they hang out in their billionaire boy summer camps laughing like fat cats, we organize a new world for workers.” Said the actor on his social networks.
What do you think of Mark’s words?
