‘Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom’ is set to hit theaters all over the world on December 20, 2023 as the final entry of the DC Extended Universe (DCEU). However, the movie is currently undergoing, for the third time, extensive reshoots which raises several questions about its quality and also left many fans wondering if the controversial Amber Heard will finally be replaced.
Earlier this week, Patrick Wilson, who plays King Orm in the movie, confirmed in an interview that, even though the principal photography for the movie was concluded almost two years ago, additional reshoots were ordered and are currently being filmed. The American actor told the Hollywood Reporter that “Orm is awesome. I was with him last week” while promoting his directorial debut ‘Insidious: The Red Door.’
After the news broke, the online community immediately started speculating about the reasons behind the reshoots. One of the most popular theories is that DC Studios and Warner Bros. are looking to completely remove Amber Heard’s scenes from the movie to avoid any further controversies due to the legal battle against her ex-husband, Johnny Depp.
As of today, neither James Gunn nor Peter Safran have confirmed or denied these rumors so it is uncertain if Amber Heard will continue playing Mera in ‘Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom.’ Despite this, reshoots are always a sign that the story is being improved so maybe the final result will satisfy fans all over the world.
