Tom Cruise showed his support for the 2023 SAG-AFTRA strike

Tom Cruise is one of the most prolific actors in Hollywood and he has even been deemed “the savior of cinema” with moves like ‘Top Gun: Maverick’ and ‘Mission: Impossible – Dead Reckoning.’ More recently, he has gotten involved and showed his support for the SAG-AFTRA strike and could even become a key piece in reaching a deal.

On July 14, the SAG–AFTRA announced to the world that its more than 100,000 members would be going on strike due to the unfair conditions for actors in Hollywood. As a member of the union, it looks like the American actor actively participated in several of the negotiations with the studios and could be a defining factor in achieving a good resolution.

According to The Hollywood Reporter, studios are interested in using artificial intelligence (AI) to make the process of creating movies easier and cheaper at the expense of the talent. However, Cruise reportedly demanded studios to regulate the use of AI so actors are fairly paid and their likeness is protected.

On top of that, Tom Cruise also raised his concerns regarding the safety measures and proper compensation for stunt performers as this particular branch is often overlooked. Despite this, both parties have not reached any agreement and it looks like Hollywood will continue on strike for a couple more weeks.
