Disney has always found a way to maintain its relevance and continue to be the powerhouse of family-friendly content which explains why the company has shifted all its focus into the live-action remakes of their animated classics such as ‘The Lion King’ and ‘The Little Mermaid.’ Recently, the first images of their upcoming live-action ‘Snow White’ film were released and caused a stir on social media.
‘Snow White’ is one of the most beloved animated classics from the studio so fans were eagerly waiting for the live-action version. However, the first on-set photos of the movie were leaked online earlier this week and left many fans disappointed, creating a whole new controversy.
According to the leaked photos, the iconic seven dwarfs are not going to appear in the movie and they will be replaced with different magical beings. On top of that, Disney is taking the diversity approach once again and the new cast will all have different sizes, ethnicities and genders.
As a result, ‘Snow White’ is already receiving a lot of backlash on social media and it is shaping up to be another failure for Disney. Despite this, the studio addressed the situation via a statement where they explained that all the changes were done with the intention of avoiding issues with stereotypical depictions of specific groups of people.
