Disney Pixar’s latest movie ‘Elemental’ had an underwhelming performance after its opening weekend on June 22, 2023, and it was quickly deemed one of the studios’ biggest failures. However, the movie is showing incredible legs at the box office due to the good word of mouth, bouncing back and proving the haters wrong.
Over the past few years, both Disney and Pixar have struggled to score a hit at the box office. Although the COVID-19 pandemic is in part to blame, the general audiences and movie critics have also expressed their discontent with the quality of the movies that they have put out which might also explain their poor performance at the box office.
‘Elemental’ was not the exception and social media was flooded with comments criticizing the movie shortly after its release. Most of the comments called out the movie’s “forced inclusivity” and were expecting it to be Disney Pixar’s latest flop. However, the movie is quickly becoming a box office juggernaut and has even broken several records.
Earlier this week, it was reported that ‘Elemental’ now holds the record for the highest-grossing Disney animated film since “Frozen 2” which was released in 2019. As of today, the movie has grossed $263 million worldwide and even surpassed other movies like ‘Encanto’, proving the haters wrong and becoming a huge success for Disney and Pixar.
