Crisis in Hollywood: rumors about an actors’ strike spread online

Currently, the Hollywood film industry is experiencing serious delays on their productions, which has also led to large financial losses. The delays are the side effect of the recent strikes and protests that screenwriters have been carrying out for several months now. Due to the protests, dozens of projects in development have been frozen until further notice, and the income of the filming studios have had the worst outcome.

Now, a new problem has raised the concern of the industry’s top executives: rumors of a possible strike by actors.

Experts in the field have commented that, if this rumor was to be true, Hollywood would enter into an imminent crisis, since this would not only prolong the protests of screenwriters, but would also lead to multiple productions to be lost in mid-development, along the work and money invested into them. This rumor has arisen because of the uncertainty surrounding Hollywood, and because of the support that the protesters have received by the actors’ union, the SAG-AFTRA.

The vice president of the screenwriters’ union, WGA, had this to say when asked about the matter: “We want SAG to get the best deal possible. Our strike is helping them push back, and our members have strength and see clear issues that we need to keep fighting for,” which severely worried industry executives.

Major productions, such as Stranger Things, Cobra Kai and Abbott Elementary have already been affected by screenwriters’ protests and have postponed their premiere dates by a few months. These strikes are not only affecting recording studios, but also consumers, who will have to wait a lot longer for their favorite series and movies.
