When the news broke that there would be a Barbie movie, the world was shocked, as she is a very distinctive child figure with a much more realistic and darker twist, which seems to be the new line of movies concerning childhood toys and characters. News recently broke that Barney would be in production, but not just anyone will be able to see it. The new ‘Barney the Dinosaur’ movie will NOT be for kids.
The movie will not be aimed at children, as it will apparently have quite a few risqué moments.
“It’s not that it will be rated R, but there will be some tribulations of being in your thirties.” Clarified a Mattel executive.
Kevin McKeon, an executive of the renowned toy brand, assured in an interview with ‘The New Yorker’, that the movie will be “surreal”, and that it cannot be compared to Barney’s previous TV projects. It will be something totally different and not at all familiar. These revelations have made fans eager to see the film of what was, in his childhood, one of the most lovable and endearing characters.
Kevin also confirmed that the target audience for this new version of Barney will be everyone who watched the Barney and Friends show from 1992 to 2009, which means that the original audience is now in their thirties. That’s right, the film will be aimed primarily at a full-fledged adult audience. “We’re leaning into the millennial angst of ownership rather than tweaking it for kids,” McKeon clarified to The New Yorker. “It’s really a game for adults.”
