BTS boys are once again victims of racism after controversial remarks by Asian-American comedian

Recently, fans of the popular Kpop band BTS have shown their anger and indignation against the words that a famous Asian-American comedian has said about the boys members of the musical group, many claiming that they were victims of racism.

Popular comedian Jimmy O. Yang is currently facing a huge wave of criticism due to his “racist jokes” about the BTS boys. The comedian was accused of insulting BTS members through his comedy special ‘Guess How Much?‘, available on Amazon Prime.

During his stand-up, Jimmy started his joke about BTS, praising them for their huge talent and how recognized they have become around the world, “I love BTS, even white people know BTS. That’s what I call progressing. Following this, the comedian told an “anecdote” of how a 15-year-old boy wanted to introduce them to all the band members, and it was from here that the ARMY’s anger set in.

“I didn’t want to say it, and I couldn’t say it as an Asian person either, but they all look like me, only with pink hair,” the joke referenced one of the racist stereotypes that has involved people of Asian descent around the world, then he further complicates it by saying “I can turn the show into a BTS concert right now”, he points to himself and says “This is Jimmy”, takes off his glasses and relates “And this is Jimin, right here, don’t you know it.”

The comedian has been strongly criticized in the social networks by all BTS fans, mostly of Asian origin, who claim that the stereotype that all Asians are the same is highly offensive.
