Prince William has been actively working on his charity projects with the intention of improving his public image. His most recent project, ‘Homewards’, was inspired by the late Princess Diana and its purpose is to eradicate homelessness in the United Kingdom. However, several people have deemed him a “hypocrite” for trying to help those in need.
Although the Prince of Wales has been involved in several charity projects throughout the years, there is a small portion of the British population that believe William only gets involved in this kind of project to increase his own popularity in the United Kingdom.
Republic, an anti-monarchist group, released a statement through Yahoo U.K. where they publicly called out William’s hypocrisy: “The royals spend hundreds of millions a year on themselves. Until they sort that out this kind of thing is hypocritical nonsense. As with Earthshot, this is a small project blown out of proportion by palace PR and the media. It will not tackle homelessness.”
In addition, historian Dr. Ed Owens also shared his opinion on the matter on Twitter and discussed the complexity of the situation:
“The impact of this kind of royal philanthropy is also more complex than it at first seems. Whilst on the surface William’s plans seem admirable, they are also profoundly political and speak to much deeper failings within Britain to properly address the social ill of homelessness.”
Despite this, it looks like Prince William will not pay attention to the criticism as he is fully committed to honoring Princess Diana’s legacy by helping those in need. On top of that, it is expected that his different charity projects are successful and have a lot of impact in the United Kingdom.
