Disney’s diversity department could disappear after constant failures in box office

Recently, news of the departure of Latondra Newton, former head of Disney‘s diversity department, was announced. According to the official statement issued by the human resources director of the organization, Newton would retire from her position because she wants to concentrate on other projects.

Even so, this information was not at all convincing for the specialized media, who assure that her departure was due to a dismissal by the company’s executives due to the commercial losses and the harsh criticism that their last films have received, complications that have been attributed to the decisions taken by the diversity department and that could finally lead to the disappearance of the department.

International media highlighted that there is a strong possibility that Disney executives are planning to partially eliminate the diversity department, remembering that Disney has been one of the companies most affected by the numerous comments from filmmakers and critics, due to the forced inclusions in their latest fictional characters.

A great example of this would be the last two Disney productions, ‘The Little Mermaid‘ and ‘Elementary‘, becoming the least lucrative releases of the company, reflecting big money losses at the box office worldwide, and being harshly criticized in social networks with their “unnecessarily” inclusive characters, as they have been branded by netizens.

Although there is still no confirmation from an official source, it is clear that with this dismissal the company could be seriously considering to disappear the diversity department of the company, and rethink a new way to recover its classic essence in the movies about their magical characters.
