Meghan Markle and Prince Harry are currently at the center of a whole new controversy after the United States government prohibited them from trademarking ‘Archetypes.’ Now, the future of their brand is at risk since the royal couple will not be able to use the name in any of their planned projects.
On June 21, the United States Patent and Trademark Office immediately rejected Meghan and Harry’s request to trademark ‘Archetypes’ which could bring serious consequences for the future of their production company, Archewell Audio, as they will not be able to release more podcasts using ‘Archetypes’ as the name.
According to the Daily Mail, the reason why the Duke and Duchess of Sussex’s request was rejected by the U.S. government is because there is already an existing trademark by Arizonian firm Archetypes LLC. A few years ago, the company got the right to use the name ‘Archetypes’ for a series of books and articles in relation to nutrition, fitness, sexuality, and psychological self-improvement.
As a result, Meghan Markle and Prince Harry are currently not allowed to receive profits from any projects they release under the name of ‘Archetypes’ since they do not own the trademark. However, they requested a three-month extension to resubmit their petition which will be reviewed by the United States Patent and Trademark Office to give them a final answer.
