South Korea is accused of racism after letting the live action of ‘The Little Mermaid’ fail in theaters

In recent times, Asian countries, such as South Korea, have been pointed out for being the first to judge current film productions for different reasons, thus causing the projects to obtain negative numbers for the simple fact of not be accepted by the Middle East.

So far in 2023, several long-awaited films have been released, including ‘The Little Mermaid‘ starring Halle Bailey, which despite its great impact around the world did not do very well in South Korea, after the numbers received were not expected by the production.

The new film was compared to other releases of the Disney franchise and resulting in new accusations for the country by numerous international media that call it racist for letting the long-awaited live-action of the iconic Disney princess fail in all its theaters.

Although many South Koreans, like the rest of the world, expressed their surprise to see that an African American woman would play Ariel in the live-action, many decided to wait for the film to give their opinion, then the Asian Boss YouTube channel walked the streets of South Korea asking about racism and the Disney movie.

Although many media point to the South Koreans as racist for not achieving the expected numbers at the box office, the truth is that many citizens expressed their appreciation for the production and among the few critics were about the special effects. On the other hand, they praised how funny the movie is and the good music and plot.
