BTS’ Suga has gained a lot of fans since the release of his debut album ‘D-Day’ as it immediately became a huge success and helped him launch his career as a solo artist. However, he is currently in the midst of a new controversy due to his comments regarding Chinese idols who are part of South Korean groups.
The South Korean rapper is currently touring the world with his ‘SUGA | Agust D Tour’ and it is common for him to go live on social media to spend time with his fans after wrapping up a concert. During the live stream, he usually answers a couple of questions while having a snack and although most of the questions are pretty standard, he caught everyone’s attention by answering one question about China.
At one point, his fans started to mention different countries in the chat and Suga followed by giving his opinion on them. The idol saw a Chinese flag and revealed that he cannot perform in China. In addition, he also explained that even if it is common for K-Pop groups to have members from different nationalities, they will not be able to promote their music in China unless all the members are Chinese.
China has a non-official ban on ‘Hallyun’ (Korean entertainment content) which directly affects South Korean idols and groups as they are not allowed to promote their music in this country. For example, Aespa’s Ningning will be appearing in a Chinese survival TV show as a mentor as she is Chinese but she is currently unable to promote Aespa’s music because of the restriction.
