BLACKPINK’s Jennie was harshly criticized by her fans, the so-called BLINKS after the second episode of the HBO series ‘The Idol’ was released. After the show premiered, it was quickly deemed as controversial and problematic. Due to this, her fans did not hesitate to show their discontent with Jennie’s willingness to participate in such an over-sexualized series.
The second episode, titled ‘Double Fantasy’, aired on June 11, 2023, and the online community immediately reacted to Jennie’s appearance in it. The common sentiment among the idol’s fans is that they still do not understand how she agreed to be in a series that has been described as sexist. On top of that, they also called out director Sam Levinson for creating a show that can be summed up as a “rape fantasy.”
The South Korean BLINKS were the most critical of Jennie’s appearance in the show due to its content and the scenes where she is featured. According to some of them, she displayed an attitude and behavior that is so unlike her real-life persona even if she was just acting.
Here are some of the comments that can be found across social media regarding the matter: “Why did she agree to this? This makes me realize the importance of acting skills”, “If the script is hopeless, there has to be an actress or actor who can save it.”, “What’s wrong with her acting, it is hard to see her in a sexy way.”
