Tenoch Huerta, who brought Namor to life in ‘Black Panther: Wakanda Forever’, was recently accused by Maria Elena Ríos of sexually abusing her. After the news broke, chaos ensued on social media and people are currently discussing whether the allegations are true or not.
On June 10, Maria openly accused Tenoch on Twitter by posting a message in Spanish: “It is very difficult to talk about the emotional abuse and abuse of power of a sexual predator who is loved around the world for playing a character in a movie like @TenochHuerta.” In addition, she also described him as someone who is “charming” which is one of the defining traits of a narcissist.
On top of that, the saxophonist explained the reason why she did not speak out about the abuse when it happened: “‘And why didn’t you report it earlier?’ Ask those who live in a macho country, where justice is unattainable, where you can almost get killed and people still don’t believe you. And no, I don’t want to be famous. And no, I don’t want money either because I know how to work.”
Two days later, on June 12, the Mexican actor addressed the controversy through a statement posted on his Instagram account and denied his ex-partner’s declarations by describing them as a “false and completely unsubstantiated accusation.” In addition, he revealed that he hired a legal team to protect his reputation and thanked those who have always supported him
“I am deeply grateful to my family and the people who have supported me and greatly appreciate everyone who is willing to look at the facts and reflect before rushing to an untrue and unjust conclusion.”
As of today, Marvel Studios has not released any statement addressing the scandal but it is safe to assume that both the international media and fans of the Marvel Cinematic Universe are eagerly waiting to see how this situation will unfold.
