Since the release of ‘Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse’ in 2018, the Spider-Man animated movies have quickly become one of the most popular and talked about franchises on social media. The second installment, ‘Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse’ premiered on May 30, and in just two weeks, it has become one of the highest-grossing movies of the year and even surpassed the one released in 2018.
During its second weekend, ‘Across the Spider-Verse’ grossed an estimated $55 million in the United States and $225.4 million around the world. The critically acclaimed movie has grossed $389.9 million so far surpassing ‘Into the Spider-Verse’ grossed $384.3 million.
On top of that, Joaquín Dos Santos, Ken Powers, and Justin K Thompson’s movie has broken the record of the Sony Picture Animation film with the largest opening weekend surpassing Hotel Transylvania 2 which premiered in 2015 and grossed $48.4 million during its first week.
Many fans and personnel who worked on the franchise were shocked by the good reception the movie had from both the general public and the critics. Although ‘Across the Spider-Verse’ has had to compete with other franchises like ‘Transformers: Rise of the Beast’, ‘Disney’s The Little Mermaid’ and ‘Super Mario Bros’, it has somehow come up on top due to its quality.
