Lena Headey gained a lot of international attention for bringing Cersei Lannister to life in the universally acclaimed series ‘Game of Thrones.’ However, she is back in the spotlight after confessing, 4 years after the last episode aired, that she is thankful the HBO series is not as popular as it used to be.
The last episode of the show aired on May 19, 2019, which finally concluded the story after eight successful seasons. Despite this, the last season was met with mixed reviews and criticism from the fans since many believe that including a plot twist to end the story might have ruined the whole franchise.
A few weeks ago, the actress revealed in an interview with Newsweek that she was still approached by fans of ‘Game of Thrones’. However, she added that she has noticed that the show’s popularity has decreased and she is thankful for it: “Yes, it’s died down, thank God, because it was weird.”
In addition, the reporter asked Lena Headey if she minded being asked about the series all the time to which she answered: “It’s fine…No, it’s not annoying. It’s the territory. Right? Listen, it was an amazing thing to be part of. So I’m very happy it happened, obviously.”
On the other hand, the series spin-off, ‘House of the Dragon’, premiered in 2022 and it instantly became an international phenomenon. Perhaps, the interest in regards to the ‘Game of Thrones universe is still alive and people will continue talking about it.
