Prince Harry is back in the United Kingdom to testify in court as part of the case against Mirror Group Newspapers. However, he is also at the center of a new controversy in the United States due to his immigration records which might be released to the public in the next few weeks.
A few weeks ago, the Heritage Foundation filed a complaint to demand that the U.S. government release the information about Harry’s application process. According to the conservative organization, the Department of Homeland Security should have denied the Duke of Sussex entry to the country because he admitted to using drugs in his memoir, Spare.
On June 6, the hearings began at the federal court in Washington D.C. and Carl Nichols, the judge in the case, told the DHS that they have until June 13 to decide if they are going to comply with the Heritage Foundation’s request and release the records or if they are going to expedite a Freedom of Information Act request.
On the other hand, one of the lawyers representing DHS said that “there is no need for the rapid release of Prince Harry’s documents” as “a person’s visa status is confidential.” If the U.S. government refuses to release the documents, the hearings will continue and Judge Nichols will be the one to decide if it is relevant or not to make them public.
