Prince Harry is currently in the United Kingdom to testify in court as part of the case against Mirror Group Newspapers, publisher of the Daily Mirror, for allegedly hacking his phone to obtain information about his private life. During the second day of the trial, Harry explained how he would feel if he were to lose the case.
To no one’s surprise, the Duke of Sussex did not hold back and he delivered a powerful testimony about how his life has been affected due to the stories that different tabloids have published about him and his family.
“For my whole life, the press misled me, covered up the wrongdoing, and sitting here in court knowing that they (Mirror Group Newspapers) have the evidence in front of them and for Mr. Green to suggest I’m speculating… I’m not sure what to say about that.”
In addition, Harry’s lawyer, David Sherborne, asked him to explain how he would feel if the judge does not rule in his favor:
“I believe that phone hacking was at an industrial scale across at least three of the papers at the time and that is beyond doubt. To have a decision against me and any other people that come behind me with their claims, given that Mirror Group have accepted hacking … Yes, I would feel some injustice.”
It is expected that a verdict will be reached in the next few weeks and some royal experts believe that the final result will be crucial for Prince Harry. If the judge does not rule in his favor, his public image could be damaged forever.
