There have been various confrontations between King Felipe VI and Queen Letizia in recent years, with their two daughters, Princess Leonor and Infanta Sofia, serving as the focal point. They have caused numerous conflicts between the monarchs of Spain that, in more recent days, would have led to further conflict.
The Spanish heads of state are at odds, according to reports by Spanish journalist Pilar Eyre, as a result of a number of disagreements regarding the academic future of their two daughters.
However, the most recent controversy included Infanta Sofia’s confirmation because Felipe wanted his mother, Queen Sofia, to attend the religious event and serve as her godmother. The queen mother could not attend, though, because Letizia disapproved of such action.
Eyre reassured that the Iberian kings “only comply with protocol” and that this is why they haven’t begun the divorce process. It will take some time for the waters to quiet down again because they are currently quite enraged at one another.
In the meantime, King Felipe VI and Queen Letizia will soon be left in Zarzuela alone. Leonor will continue her military training in Zaragoza, while Sofia will attend the same Welsh boarding school where the Princess of Asturias received her baccalaureate.
