In a recent statement from SM Entertainment, the agency behind the NCT, it was announced that the two members, Sungchan and Shotaro, would leave the group to debut in a new K-Pop group. This will be a new ‘boy group’, which will debut in the third quarter of 2023.
“As members of NCT, SUNGCHAN and SHOTARO have presented wonderful performances.
However, they will be closing their chapter with NCT and debuting in a new boy group that will be released in 2023“.
“After a careful consideration and discussion with SUNGCHAN and SHOTARO in the preparation of SM 3.0, we have reached a decision that would best reflect the artist’s thoughts and each group’s artistic and musical direction“.

In addition, the agency also revealed the future plans for NCT’s expansion, as they won’t add more South Korean members to the K-Pop group. They will also report to the fans all the details of the creation process for the next boy group.
On the other hand, on social networks, fans of the group have shown divided opinions, as some of them have criticized the agency and allege that the agency’s decision was wrong. Others are supporting the news and the idol’s next project.
The two former members, Sungchan and Shotaro, debut in NCT on October 12th, 2020, in the album ‘Resonance Pt. 1‘ of the acclaimed group.
