Prince Harry has been involved in several scandals in the last few years due to his controversial comments about the royal family. As a result, he decided to move to the United States with his wife, Meghan Markle, to live a calmer life away from all the controversies.
After giving up on his royal title in 2020, Harry asked the judicial branch of the United Kingdom to give him permission to pay for his own police protection whenever he visits the country as the Executive Committee for the Protection of Royalty and Public Figures stopped doing it.
However, the London High Court denied his request earlier this week. Mr. Justice Chamberlain, who was the judge in charge of the legal bid, rejected Harry’s petition and sided with RAVEC:
“It was not appropriate to support an outcome whereby wealthy individuals could ‘buy’ Protective Security from specialist police officers (potentially including armed officers), in circumstances where RAVEC has determined that the public interest does not warrant that individual receiving such Protective Security on a publicly-funded basis.”
After the ruling was made public, the Duke of Sussex’s lawyers revealed that they are going to continue looking for solutions as soon as possible because Prince Harry will likely continue visiting the United Kingdom in the future so his security is a priority.
