Prince Harry and Meghan Markle’s ‘near catastrophic’ car chase was addressed by the Mayor of New York City and the NYPD earlier this week. The details of what happened remain a mystery and the couple is currently demanding that Backgrid releases the photos and videos of that night.
Erick Adams, the Mayor of New York, was asked about the incident on Wednesday morning while he was giving a speech on public security. He mentioned that he does not believe the car chase lasted for two hours but public safety must always be at the forefront.
“New York City is different from a small town somewhere. You shouldn’t be speeding anywhere, but this is a densely populated city and I think all of us … I think there are many of us who remember how his mom died and it would be horrific to lose innocent bystanders during a chase like this, and something to have happened to them as well, so I think we have to be extremely responsible.”
On that same day, the New York City Police Department department issued another statement regarding the incident and revealed that two of their officers were almost involved in the car chase as well but there were no collisions or people injured: “There were numerous photographers that made their transport challenging. The Duke and Duchess of Sussex arrived at their destination and there were no reported collisions, summonses, injuries, or arrests in regard.”
