The Kpop industry is going through one of its longest and most viral controversies in its history. Alleged videos and photos of Jennie from BLACKPINK and V from BTS were leaked online, showing the two singers being quite close and holding hands while walking the streets of Paris on May 15th. This has fueled rumors that they are in a secret relationship.
These rumors have been circulating on social media for over a year, and this is the second time that the agency managing, promoting, and owning BLACKPINK, called YG Entertainment, is taking legal action within the context of the controversy.
The famous South Korean gossip virtual newspaper, Dispatch, known for leaking private information about artists in the genre, has contributed its share of information to the controversy. They are known for their tradition of revealing a hidden relationship between two famous individuals every January 1st and for leaking information about Kpop couples in general, so it was only a matter of time before they got involved in this topic.
According to their report, YG Entertainment is suing the person who uploaded these photos on social media for “invasion of privacy” because the artists did not give their consent to be recorded or uploaded on social media, which is exactly what the person who recorded them did. The video was uploaded to an ordinary person’s Instagram account, but it was deleted shortly after due to the controversy it caused.
This person went back to their social media to defend themselves against the defamation that this matter brought upon them. They claimed that although they deleted the video due to social pressure, they only recorded them when he encountered them on the street, and they did not chase them, and posted the video without knowing that it would become such a big problem or that they were revealing the couple. Due to the lawsuit being filed in Korea, where privacy laws are different from those in Paris, where the incident took place and where the person who recorded resides, it is difficult to predict the future of the legal case initiated by YG Entertainment. All of this information is according to Dispatch.
As a brief reminder, the last time this couple was the talk of the Kpop industry was when photos from Jennie’s phone were leaked, showing her hanging out with Taehyung. In that instance, their agency, YG Entertainment, also took legal action against the leaker, claiming charges of defamation.
