Zendaya has been accused of being xenophobic by Tom Holland’s followers because she posted a message on social media criticizing the British accent and slang. Fans of both actors found her messages deeply disrespectful and are asking for an apology.
The comments were made during an interview that the American actress had with The Sun:
“I love the British accent, but as much as Tom tries to explain it to me, I will never understand rhyming slang. Like I understand the concept — but what do apples and pears have to do with stairs? It’s cute when he tells me all the different phrases but I really don’t get it!”
Her words were taken as a direct offense to the British people and their accents. Due to the controversy, some of Tom Holland’s followers started to spread rumors about Zendaya’s attitude toward Holland and how she abuses him psychologically.
The actress has not released any statement addressing the situation. Despite this, many followers of the couple are defending her because she is clearly not and her intention was not to offend anyone. Zendaya and Tom have a great relationship full of love and respect for each other and her comments are just being taken out of context.
