United States President declines invitation to the coronation of King Charles III

It seems that luck is not on the side of King Charles III, because almost two months before his coronation at Westminster Abbey, a new snub has been made, now at the hands of the United States President Joe Biden, who will send a retinue in his place.

It should not be forgotten that several celebrities who had been invited to sing at the concert after the coronation have gotten off the boat, for various reasons, including singers Adele and Ed Sheeran.

After this refusal, the United States has sought to counteract the feeling that this presidential absence is a snub to the British monarch or its citizens, so soon will be announced the retinue of high-level personalities who will attend, including the first lady Jill Biden.

Buckingham’s request to the guests was that they RSVP on Monday and it was then that the Royal House of Windsor learned of the United States president’s decision.

.

Dame Karen Pierce, the British ambassador to the United States, and her Palace aide are believed to have had cordial and diplomatic discussions with the White House. They were informed that Biden, who attended the funeral of Queen Elizabeth II, already has other engagements.

Sources close to the president insisted that his relationship with the king was strong and both London and Washington sought to downplay any suggestion that the relationship is at risk.

The 80-year-old president plans to visit Northern Ireland this April for an event to celebrate the 25th anniversary of the Good Friday Agreement and is believed to be preparing to announce his intention to stand for re-election in the 2024 presidential race.

The executive is likely to meet with King Charles III in Northern Ireland during his day-and-a-half visit scheduled for April 11th. A source close to the negotiations said there may still be some efforts to see if Biden can be persuaded to attend the coronation.

The White House has told British representatives that Joe Biden intends to send a delegation, as officials have indicated that it was always unlikely that the president would go to the coronation.

The first globally significant coronation of the 21st century will be attended by heads of state from around the world, including Ireland, France, Spain, Belgium, Japan, Hungary and Monaco. The three presidents of the European Union, Ursula von der Leyen, Roberta Metsola and Charles Michel will also be there.
