Kate Middleton’s mother, Carole Middleton, has been in charge of her family business, Party Pieces since it was founded in 1987. Kate’s parents revealed that she was the inspiration for creating the company because they were thinking about what kind of party decoration would they make for their daughter’s 5th birthday.
Party Pieces specializes in party decorations and has brought joy to many children in the United Kingdom as its main goal is to offer affordable gifts for everyone. In 2022, the company expanded to the United States market in collaboration with an American supermarket chain.
Despite this, the company is struggling financially after the 2020 lockdowns. The amount of birthday parties decreased significantly and the numbers haven’t gone back to pre–pandemic levels. In addition, the United Kingdom postal service company, Royal Mail, went on strike and caused delays in deliveries from suppliers which led the company into a deficit.
According to an expert, this is the consequence of a “continued investment in the company’s growth plans, including the launch of a wholesale division and the opening of new territories in the U.S., Europe, and the Middle East.”
Carole Middleton is desperately looking for solutions to ease the situation and has appointed an advisor to look for strategic solutions, which could include a possible sale or funding from an outside investor.
