Prince Harry is once again the main protagonist of a royal controversy. Earlier this month, it was reported that he could get in trouble with American immigration officials due to shocking confessions of substance abuse in his memoir, Spare.
Neama Rahmani, the former federal prosecutor, claimed that the admission of drug use is usually grounds for inadmissibility when he was asked about Harry’s declarations. He also added that Prince Harry’s visa should have been denied or revoked because he admitted to using cocaine, mushrooms, and other drugs.
Despite this, there are some important figures that support Harry. James Leonard is an expert in immigration matters and he expressed his disagreement with the Duke of Sussex’s deportation from the United States:
I do not envision any viable scenario where revelations in a memoir related to experimental and recreational drug use would lead to any immigration consequences for Prince Harry. Where this would become an absolute issue is if there was a criminal case of any kind and if those allegations were related to drugs or alcohol and it was determined that he was a habitual user
Leonard explained that immigration officers must open an investigation about the individual’s state before it can be treated as a criminal act or before any kind of decision is made so it’s unlikely that Harry will face any consequences.
