Yesterday, the rumor that King Felipe VI of Spain and Queen consort Letizia were divorcing started to circulate on social media, shocking users. Although nothing has been proven, there have been some ideas put forth to explain why they would split up and the factors that might have prompted them to make such a drastic choice.
El Nacional, a Spanish daily, reported yesterday that the Iberian country’s kings would be experiencing a severe marital crisis, calling it “the worst in their more than 20 years of relationship.”
In her blog post for the magazine Lecturas, famous journalist Pilar Eyre claimed that Princess Leonor, the future queen of Spain, has experienced a serious marital crisis as a result of the drama surrounding her educational future.
Recently, there have been “discussions, shouting, and slamming doors” in Zarzuela. Eyre, a writer with expertise in the Spanish royal family, outlined this in her blog post for the Lecturas magazine.
Hard times for Letizia and for her marriage. Until now she has had the initiative in the formation of Leonor. But from the age of 18 Leonor no longer belongs to her family, she belongs to the State, it is no longer her mother who guides her steps, but the government. King Felipe VI has been in charge of convincing her and this has generated a lot of tension between the two, days without speaking to each other and also slamming doors and shouting that the service staff has heard perfectly well, not used to the king raising his voice”, writes Eyre.
The journalist claims that the oldest daughter of King Felipe VI and Queen Letizia’s future and how she will adjust to it are the primary causes of the marital crisis they are currently experiencing.
