Prince Harry and Meghan Markle are struggling financially after the controversies surrounding them and the royal family. During the last year, they were at the center of several scandals that caused their eviction from their cottage in Windsor, they had previously received the property as a gift from the late Queen Elizabeth II.
According to the rumors, King Charles III decided to evict them due to the negative press they brought to other members of the royal family, such as Prince William, and the property was subsequently given to Prince Andrew.
Despite the fact that Frogmore Cottage does not belong to the royal couple, they had a lease agreement that forced them to pay a contribution.
“The Duke and Duchess of Sussex made a contribution of £2.4 million to the Sovereign Grant which covered the refurbishment of Frogmore Cottage.” A Palace spokesperson revealed.
In line with usual practice for the Sovereign Grant report, the accounting treatment was scrutinized and signed off by the National Audit Office and the Treasury. As with any such agreement between landlord and tenant, further details regarding the Sussexes’ tenancy arrangements would be a private matter.
Even if the Duke and Duchess of Sussex were able to settle their debts, the controversies generated several consequences in their finances, particularly for Meghan, who allegedly believed her husband was more wealthy.
