King Charles III’s Commonwealth Day debut has not gone unnoticed and has been rejected by thousands of attendees. The King had to experience an awkward moment of intense booing and shouting by protesters during his latest public appearance.
In addition to being the monarch of the United Kingdom, he is the head of the Commonwealth, known for being a community that integrates more than 54 countries, which throughout history have shared ties between them.
Charles, fulfilling his duty as head of the association, attends one day a year with the British royal family and provides a multi-denominational service at Westminster Abbey. This is the same place where his and his wife’s, Queen Consort Camilla Parker, coronation ceremony will be held in a few weeks.
The protesters were outspoken about their criticisms of the monarch and decided to showcase a banner that read: “He is not my king”. The incident disturbed the peaceful atmosphere in the place and lead to the King leaving early.
Despite the failure of the safety protocols during the event, the protest does not come as a surprise as Charles is not really considered a popular figure among the royalty and he was already highly criticized before becoming King.
