Will Smith was once one of the most beloved actors in Hollywood but the public perception of him changed after he slapped Chris Rock during the 94th Academy Awards and he has remained away from the public eye since then. Rock released his standup special, Selective Outrage, and revealed more shocking details about his current relationship with Smith.
During the show, the comedian addressed the controversial incident and admitted the slap “still hurts” as he still has not received a personal apology from the actor. He added that a simple apology could have prevented the scathing jokes about Jada and Will’s marriage made during the special.
One of Chris’ closest friends commented about how he never got a one-on-one private apology, Smith only apologized to the public which basically meant nothing to the person he actually physically assaulted. Despite this, Rock is still open to working things out and saving their friendship.
The 95th Academy Awards will be held on March 12, 2023 for the first time since the slap. In August, Chris revealed that the Academy had invited him to host the 2023 ceremony but declined the proposal. According to him, accepting the hosting job is like returning to the scene of a crime.
