Will Smith and Chris Rock were the protagonists of what it’s considered the most shocking moment in live television during the last decade. The 94th Academy Awards were held in L.A. on March 27, 2022 but by the end of that night, everyone was just talking about the slap incident.
Rock was the host for that year’s ceremony and he was making jokes about all the attendees as it was expected. However, Smith got onto the stage and physically assaulted the comedian after he made a joke about the actor’s wife, Jada Pinkett, and her struggles with alopecia.
It’s been almost a year since the controversial moment and all the implicated have avoided discussing what happened that night until now. Chirs Rock has finally decided to break his silence and shared more details of what caused the incident.
During his new Netflix stand up show, Selective Outrage, Chris revealed that he has known Jada since 2015 but that they didn’t really get along and things weren’t exactly on the best terms that night because she knew he was going to host the show and she had some outrageous demands for him:
Years ago, his wife said I should quit the Oscars. I shouldn’t host ’cause her man didn’t get nominated for Concussion. And then he gives me a f***ing concussion. That’s how it is – she starts it, I finish it, OK? That’s what the f*** happened. Nobody’s picking on her. She started this s***
The comedian reassures everyone that he doesn’t have any hard feelings towards Will but he wants the public to know that Jada was the one to start the feud and ruin their relationship.
