The popular TV program for aspiring singers, American Idol 2023, will have Katy Perry as a judge. In its most recent transmission, the interpreter of “The one that got away” was met with screams and tears.
Trey Louis, a young aspiring singer, shared his motivation for being on stage during his involvement. He sang a cover of Whiskey Myers’ Stone to a standing ovation from the judges.
Trey shared his experience and acknowledged that he had survived a massacre in Texas in 2018 that left 10 people dead.
“As I said before I am from Santa Fe, Texas, and in May 2018 a gunman walked into the school. I was in Art Room 1 and he showed up in Room 2. Before he made it all the way to 1 I lost a lot of friends. It was eight students killed, two teachers went and this has been really negative.” said junior Trey.
After hearing his story, Katy Perry was unable to control her emotions and started crying, obscuring her face with her palms. She cried, “Our nation has failed us,” as Luke Bryan rushed to console her.
“This isn’t right! You should be singing here because you love music!!! not because you had to go through that shit!” she added, as the young contestant replied, “It’s true.” “Not because you had to go through that. You didn’t have to lose…friends. I hope you remind people that we have to change, because you know what, I’m scared too,” Katy Perry sentenced.
