The production company and owner of a streaming content platform, HBO Max, confirmed that it is already working on the realization of a prequel to the tale, which will be turned into a series, following the success of the 2017 film “It” and its 2019 sequel.
“Let’s go back to where it all began…. Welcome to Derry (Title TBD), a new prequel series to the hit movies set in the #IT (ESO) universe created by Stephen King, will soon be coming to #HBOMax,” HBO made known through its social networks.
The multimedia content creation company states that the spin-off will be directed by the same movie director, filmmaker Andy Muschietti, who will also have Barbara Muschietti and Jason Fuchs on his or her team. Andy Muschietti will be in charge of the pilot chapter and some other parts of the selfie.
“Set in the world of Stephen King’s It universe, Welcome to Derry is based on King’s novel It and expands on the vision established by filmmaker Andy Muschietti in the feature films It and It. Chapter 2,” reads the synopsis for ‘Welcome to Derry’.
That wasn’t all, though, as the Muschiettis also discussed the development of the show and expressed their joy at realizing a goal they’ve had since they were teenagers: to adapt Stephen King’s It story into a television series.
“When we were teenagers, we would take turns reading chapters of Stephen King’s It until the thick paperback fell apart. It is an epic story with a lot of content, far beyond what we could cover in our It movies. We’re looking forward to delving into Steve’s novel, in all its heart, humor, humanity and horror,” said the Muschiettis.
The story’s author, Stephen King, has already spoken about this series, though the precise publication date has not yet been revealed. Although Bill Skarsgard is anticipated to reprise his part as Pennywise the clown, the cast of the series is yet another unknown.
