After receiving a diagnosis of “Afasia,” a language disorder that makes reading, writing, and verbal expression difficult, Bruce Willis announced his retirement from acting.
However, the actor’s ex-wife, Demi Moore, revealed this past Wednesday, February 16, in the late afternoon that he suffers from frontotemporal dementia.
The frontotemporal dementia is a disease that is quite similar to Alzheimer’s. Given that their diagnosis has taken many years, they believe that it may affect more people than they are currently aware of.
The actress updated the audience on Bruce Willis’ health state via her official Instagram account; she started by thanking everyone for their support.
She was, however, disappointed when Moore disclosed that Bruce Willis has the aforementioned condition based on a declaration from the Association for Frontotemporal Degeneration (AFTD).
“Bruce’s condition has progressed and we now have a more specific diagnosis: frontotemporal dementia (aka FTD). Unfortunately, challenges with communication are just one of the symptoms of the disease Bruce faces,” the celebrity wrote.
Demi Moore, said that this issue “is painful, (but) it is a relief to finally have a clear diagnosis”.
Therefore, the actress added that “today there are no treatments for the disease, a reality that we hope can change in the coming years”.
