TXT‘s Beomgyu, was criticized by netizens after making a comment deemed “fat-phobic” during his appearance on KBS’ ‘Idol Human Theatre‘ to promote their new album, “The Name Chapter: TEMPTATION“.
On the program, the members performed a skit showing them celebrating New Year’s at their grandmother’s house, and Beomgyu was asked if there would be a dining table among their members in the dynamic they were doing. The K-Pop idol jokingly replied:
“No, no. Half of us are light eaters and [the other half]…big eaters? What do you call it, pigs! The other half are pigs!“

Despite not being unintentionally mean, the fact that the TXT member called some of his groupmates “pigs” was not entirely accepted by some netizens, who criticized the idol on the interwebs.
On the other hand, many fans came to Beomgyu’s defense, clarifying that the term “pig” is usually used to describe a person who eats a lot in Korea, but it is necessarily related to physical appearance, and even praised him for using such a mild expression.
Finally, many shared that although the word “pig” to describe a person might be hurtful and offensive in other parts of the world, in Korea they use it more casually.
