R’Bonney Nola Gabriel, the representant of USA in the pageant, was crowned as Miss Universe on last Saturday 14th of January, against the opinion of basically the whole audience, and the rest of the contestants as well.
The scandal was so big that the fans of the pageant started an internet campaign claiming that, since the show was hosted in the city of New Orleans, in the state of Louisiana, in the United States, the local contestant was helped a lot by the judges, while the public’s opinion was heavily sided with the Curaçao and Venezuela representants.
After the enormous wave of criticism that she received from a lot of local and international newspapers, and the fraud accusations that she and the organization itself suffered, the Miss Universe 2022 decided to speak up about the matter.
R’Bonney states that she is very happy wearing the crown that was granted to her, along with the title of the global ambassador of the beauty of women. She also said that destructive criticism is to be ignored.
Her attitude was poorly received by the general public, and as proof of that, the Instagram posts of multiple contestants from other countries such as Venezuela and Colombia, have received twice, three times as many likes as the posts from the “winner”, Miss Usa.
