On the night of December 30th, the South Korean newsletter portal, Kpop Herald, reported via Twitter that the best selling and biggest girl group of the moment, BLACKPINK, would be switching agencies, and the fans started wondering what that meant, and if a disband was possible.
According to the source, the decision was made at the start of this year, by the founder of the new agency, known as Teddy. As reported by them, BLACKPINK would leave their current agency, YG, but instead of disbanding or taking a hiatus, they will simply move to a subsidiary company and managing agency called THE BLACK LABEL, which is also owned by YG.
This type of moves have not been made that many times in the Kpop industry, so we do not have as many examples of this occurrence to compare and know what to expect, so the fans had a lot of space to guess what could happen, and even started worrying about a possible disband, or a member ending their contract.
Their current agency, YG, clarified the information in a statement released to address the rumor and clarified that the girl group will not leave the company, neither will they move or switch companies, and no changes have been made.
Much to the relief of the fans, the group is not in danger of disbanding or losing a member, it was just a rumor started by the newsletter but with no validity.
