It has been known for decades that once Queen Elizabeth II passed away, many things in England would have to change their image or information, among them postage stamps, her anthem, passports and, mainly, money, which should bear the picture of the person who would take her place on the throne.
Well, there is no deadline that is not met and the time has come for the new face on the British currency.
This week, the Bank of England presented the money with the face of the now King Charles III, who replaced his mother as soon as she ceased to exist in the earthly world.
The new designs will be on the 5, 10, 20 and 30 pound bills, all with the same photo of Charles III, but in different colors. According to the information shared at different times by Buckingham Palace, the banknotes with the monarch will be put into circulation in mid 2024 and at the same time as those of Queen Elizabeth II so that the replacement will be gradual.
The image of British monarchs has been present on coins since the 8th century, however, Queen Elizabeth II was the first to appear on money, making Charles III the second sovereign to occupy such a place, Buckingham explained about the history of its currency.
So far, some users on social networks have expressed their disagreement with the changes, saying that it is disrespectful to change the image, taking into account that the queen’s death is relatively recent.
