The director Hillary Bradfield thought it was going to have a negative reception, because the previous titles where inclusive stories were introduced, were full of criticism.
“Just to see how people connect with the short film is very special, because I put so much into this and also a lot of the crew members; they invested a lot of their personal stories into this, so it’s been incredibly meaningful. I got some heartfelt messages from young dancers, and that was very meaningful, plus it gave me a thrill to think that people were watching our little two-minute film looking at your posture and checking things in the mirror is part of the craft, so it seemed like a good way to put her in that environment where she has to look at herself, but I didn’t want to do that.”
This is how “Reflect“, the story of Disney’s first overweight superheroine, has become a success that young people love and embraced with great affection, as the company has now decided to create much more real characters so that more people can identify with them.
