Shakira, the successful Colombian singer has made her opinion clear to her followers about the reason for her absence from this year’s world cup, and it’s actually a very logical reason.
Before the cup began, it was already rumored that she would be presenting the opening or the closing ceremony, as it’s usual of the Queen of World Cups¸ and even though the rumors intensified in the last days before the tournament began, the day it started, it was confirmed that she would NOT partake in the ceremony.
Time passed and soon before the closing ceremony, which was held on December 18th, it was revealed that Ozuna, the Puerto Rican singer that recently released a song with Shakira, would be performing on the show, and the rumors about Shakira’s appearance started again.
However, fans were let down once again and the beloved “Waka Waka” singer didn’t appear on stage to perform the iconic song. But at least, now we have the reason why she declined the offer made by the FIFA and the world cup organizers.
The hitmaker took to her social media, her Twitter account, to make a comment about the situation with the Iran soccer team player, Amir Nasr-Azadani, who has a death row sentence due to being a supporter of women’s rights and protesting about the repression of women in Iran. This is the reason why she stepped out of the event, also, it looks like it was the right decision, due to the context of the world cup, which has been polemic enough for being held on a country with low guaranties for human rights.
