FIFA called Shakira to sing ‘Waka Waka’ because the new World Cup song failed

Shakira confirms her status as the undisputed Queen of the World Cup by being called to perform at the opening ceremony of the FIFA World Cup for the fourth time. The Opening Ceremony will be held this November 20 at the Al Bayt Stadium, just before the opening match between Ecuador and the local team Qatar.

As usual, the artist in charge of the ceremony will make a live presentation and perform the official song of the World Cup. The official song of the Qatar 2022 World Cup is titled “Hayya Hayya (Better Together)”, performed by Trinidad Cardona, Davido and Aisha.

It was released about seven months ago, but despite the organization’s tireless attempts to promote the song, they have not achieved greater success, with just 27 million views on YouTube and half of the comments asking for “Waka Waka” by the acclaimed Shakira.

Because of this, FIFA will break with tradition and present that song at the opening ceremony.

It has been confirmed a few hours ago that Shakira was the chosen one to give the show, much to the delight of soccer fans.

This will be the fourth time that Shakira performs at the event, after her presentations in Germany in 2006, in South Africa in 2010, and the third time in Brazil in 2014.

The Colombian has released two World Cup songs, “Waka Waka” in 2010, which was the official song, and “LA LA LA” in 2014, which, although it was not the official song of the World Cup, was the public’s favorite and she had to perform it instead of the official song. It is speculated that she could sing both songs in this edition, and, in addition, she will be accompanied by the also Colombian Maluma, the Caribbean Nicki Minaj and BTS member Jungkook.
