The singer and actress has made a powerful retrospective about her career and personal life and has also shared the reason why she decided to adopt her husband Ben Affleck’s last name.

“People are still going to call me Jennifer Lopez. But my legal name will be Mrs. Affleck because we’re close. We are husband and wife. I’m proud of that. I don’t think it’s a problem,” the actress and singer assured.

When asked by interviewer Rob Haskell if part of her would prefer her husband to be called Mr. Lopez, she was adamant:

“No! It wouldn’t be traditional or romantic. It would be more of a power move.

I control my own life and my destiny and I feel empowered as a woman and as a person,” she confessed.

Other celebrities of Lopez’s stature have decided to do the same with their legal names and continue using their maiden name as a stage name, however, this practice has been highly criticized in recent years by the feminist movement that is beginning to question this custom in the United States

“I can understand that some people have their feelings about it, and I’m fine with that, too. But if you want to know what it looks like to me, I just think it’s kind of romantic. It still conveys tradition and romance to me, and maybe I’m that kind of girl,” said Jlo, who in that sense doesn’t think her empowerment can be influenced by this tradition.
