The new Twitter administration, led by Elon Musk, fired the Twitter Mexico team during the first hours of this Friday; the cuts come at a time when the social network is undergoing an aggressive restructuring due to the arrival of its new owner.
The layoffs were made via email on Friday, reported the specialized media UnoCero. The publication also shared the text of the message that was allegedly sent to employees:
“In an effort to put Twitter on a healthy path, on Friday we will go through the difficult process of reducing our global workforce. We recognize that this will affect a number of people who have made valuable contributions to Twitter, but unfortunately this action is necessary to ensure the company’s future success,” the media outlet reported.
Following the layoffs, former Twitter employees made public their farewells with the hashtags #LoveWhereYouWorked. They also recommended their colleagues who were left without work.
Since his arrival at Twitter a week ago, Musk announced that he would cut a large part of the workforce worldwide. This move won the company a class action lawsuit in a San Francisco, California court for violating federal law that requires it to give 60 days’ notice before making mass layoffs.
